The
problem of job stress has substantial personal and
professional costs. At least 60% of all medical
visits involve stress related symptoms and more
than $300 billion is lost annually in stress related
productivity, health care and absenteeism costs.
As a result, corporate wellness experts are now
recognizing the importance of stress management
programs to curb stress. The WorkSMART program is
one way to:
• Teach relaxation and stress management skills
• Establish a healthier work/life balance
• Improve productivity, job satisfaction,
workplace climate
WorkSMART is an engaging, experiential
six-session program designed to teach relaxation
and stress management on the job. This multi-faceted
program is designed to reduce job stress while
fitting easily into the work environment. WorkSMART
guides participants on how to recognize stress
– and the situations that trigger it –
and then offers clear, manageable strategies to
reduce stress for greater physical and emotional
well-being.
The Curriculum Guide provides
clear, concise and easy-to-follow instructions
and materials to supplement the audio and written
lessons in WorkSMART training kits. The evidence-based
methods include both cognitive skills and relaxation
training exercises which can be easily adapted
to meet the wide-ranging needs of any group.
Group leaders will appreciate
the WorkSMART:
• User-friendly instructional syllabus
• Highlighted key concepts and core exercises
• Supplementary exercises to meet varied
needs
• Written scripts for WorkSMART relaxation
exercises
• Reproducible activity sheets

With the Curriculum Guide and
WorkSMART training kits, leaders are well-equipped
to customize the program to meet specific training
needs. Group leaders may select lessons which
range from a few minutes to an hour in length.
Skill-building
training with WorkSMART prepares participants
for stress management success as they learn, practice
and use basic relaxation skills in 3 steps. First,
they will acquire a foundation of skills in well-known
relaxation methods including breath focus, visualization
and muscle relaxation. Then, through guided imagery
and rehearsal, group members practice using relaxation
methods in stressful situations at work. As trainees
gain skill and confidence, they learn to automatically
initiate relaxation methods to handle anxiety
and stress on the job or in any situation.
