StudySMART is an engaging, experiential six-session program designed to teach students the individual skills needed to manage stress in class, during tests and in daily life. The Curriculum Guide provides clear, concise and easy-to-follow instructions and materials to supplement the audio and written lessons in StudySMART training kits. The evidence-based methods include both cognitive skills and relaxation training exercises to meet the wide-ranging needs of students from elementary to graduate school. To meet individual and group needs, leaders will benefit from:
• User-friendly instructional syllabus
• Highlighted key concepts and core exercises
• Supplementary exercises to meet varied needs
• Written scripts for StudySMART relaxation exercises
• Reproducible activity sheets
• Glossary of important terms

With the Curriculum Guide and StudySMART training kits, leaders are well-equipped to customize the program to meet individual and group needs. Group leaders may select lessons which range from a few minutes to an hour in length.

Skill-building training with StudySMART prepares students for stress management success as they learn, practice and use basic relaxation skills in 3 steps. First, students acquire a foundation of skills in well-known relaxation methods including breath focus, visualization and muscle relaxation. Then through guided imagery and rehearsal, students practice using relaxation methods in stressful situations, such as test-taking. As students gain skill and confidence, they learn to automatically initiate relaxation methods to handle anxiety and stress in any situation.
